Job Summary
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) leads system-level nursing education programs and professional development initiatives. The NPDS functions autonomously and in collaboration with nursing staff, leadership, Clinical Resource Nurses, faculty, and researchers to develop, implement, and evaluate programs that enhance role competence, professional growth, and lifelong learning in diverse practice settings.
The NPDS promotes synergistic practices to achieve optimal patient outcomes, advances educational practices based on Harris Health’s Nursing Professional Practice Model and strategic plan, and ensures compliance with standards from professional nursing organizations, national, state, and local regulatory agencies, and institutional policies. The NPDS mentors staff, role models professionalism, and upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior.
Minimum Qualifications
Education / Specialized Training / Licensure:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
Master’s degree in Nursing or related field required
Certification in Nursing Professional Development to be completed within two (2) years if not held at hire
Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas
Basic Life Support (BLS) from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program
Work Experience:
Five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse
Management / Leadership Experience:
Two (2) years of related education or leadership experience
Communication Skills:
Above average verbal (heavy public contact)
Exceptional verbal (public speaking)
Writing / Composing (correspondence/reports)
Proficiencies:
CRT, PC
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Analytical, Design, Medical Terminology, Research, Statistical
Work Schedule:
Weekends, Holidays, Flexible
