About the Position

Harris Health System is seeking a Physician to join the Correctional Health team at the 701 Clinic. This role offers the opportunity to work in a challenging yet highly rewarding environment, delivering high-quality care to individuals housed in the Harris County Jail.

Responsibilities include conducting intake health assessments, managing urgent and chronic care conditions, and collaborating with advanced practice providers and multidisciplinary teams. You will work closely with Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies, nursing staff, and on-site services such as radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, dental, and nutrition services.

This role also involves coordinating care with external hospitals when higher-level care is required and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.

Requirements

  • Education:

    • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

    • Board Certified or Board-Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine

    • Must obtain and maintain board certification within required timeframe

  • Licensure:

    • Active Texas Medical Board license

    • Active DEA license

  • Experience:

    • Completion of an ACGME-accredited 3- or 4-year residency program

  • Clinical Skills:

    • Proficiency in suturing, splinting, and EKG interpretation

    • Strong clinical judgment and patient care skills

  • Communication Skills:

    • Above Average Verbal (heavy public contact)

    • Exceptional verbal communication (public speaking)

    • Strong written communication (correspondence and reports)

  • Technical Skills:

    • Computer proficiency

  • Knowledge/Skills:

    • Analytical abilities

    • Mathematics and medical terminology

    • Research knowledge and capabilities

  • Work Schedule:

    • 8-hour day shifts
